Technology for technology's sake? Or...
My goal is to engage leaders in a learning process to define and achieve valued outcomes, including but not limited to technology that is sensible for all.
Fair and participatory – all interested parties get to provide input, are informed about how that input is incorporated into strategy, and understand the roles and rules going forward
Learning – effectively deploying and utilizing technology requires a huge amount of learning; contrary to common wisdom, human learning is active and social, learning by doing together
Leadership – a new model of leadership has emerged in parallel with the Internet: leadership is not about command and control; it is about engaging and enabling
What does it matter if we all have technology, if we are poor, sick, and unhappy? What we really value are liberty, prosperity, and wellness, for ourselves and for those we care about. The process must translate short-term felt needs into new ideas about how to achieve those things that are truly important.
Efficiency – most simply, the ratio of inputs to outputs or costs to benefits; broadband provides a platform for doing more with less, for living better while using few resources.
Efficacy – don’t just do something: do the right thing; broadband provides the most benefits when it enables products and services to be flexibly customized to meet needs and interests.
Equity – more than just giving everyone a fair chance, equity means ownership; broadband can enable everyone to take a personal stake in business, government, and community.
